Unloading a Crossbow
The best way to unload a crossbow is to fire an arrow into a target or suitable backstop. If shooting toward the ground, be sure there are no rocks or debris that could send the arrow in an unexpected direction. In New Jersey, hunters are allowed to carry one target arrow equipped with a field point for the purposes of unloading the crossbow. All arrows used for hunting must have broadhead points. Do not attempt to unload the crossbow using your hands or the cocking aid.
SAFETY FIRST! Do not pull the trigger on a crossbow unless there is an arrow nocked in place. Doing so can result in damage to the bow or personal injury.
