The cross bolt-safety is common on pump and semi-automatic firearms. It is usually located at either the rear or front of the trigger guard. The simple push button action blocks the trigger mechanism.
5. Pivot, Slide or Tang Safety
This safety is found on hinge-action shotguns and a few rifles. On shotguns it is located on the tang, which is a metal strip behind the receiver. On rifles it is usually located on the side of the receiver. This safety blocks the trigger or the sear, which is the link between the trigger and firing pin; depending on the type of action.
IMPORTANT! Be aware of your firearm and its safety mechanism. In most cases, RED MEANS DEAD! If you see a red color dot, your safety is off and your firearm is ready to fire.
